I finally got around to putting this place back online for historical purposes, at least... It originally went down with the ship (read: server), but I put it back up on my personal Virtual Dedicated Server, for now. I don't plan on working on anything Trek-related anytime soon, but I'm sure I will eventually. In the meantime, I'll hold on to the domain names and keep this place reasonably well-preserved. ~Sean sean@trek-online.com |

Bethesda Softworks blackball STG Yes folks, it turns out that Bethesda Softworks have taken a leaf out of our old friend Activisions book when it comes to dealing with criticism, blackball them. Today Bethesda Softworks removed the STG's link on the fansite page and all links going to STG in the bethesda Softworks forum has been removed...with no warning to myself or the staff. When queried a representative of Bethesda had this to say... Read on…………… http://www.startrek-gamers.com/forum/viewt...p;p=43174#43174 Cheers, Acidrain |

I wanted to do a review, an in depth mission by mission, ship by ship, the whole nine yards layout, but well it is just not that interesting of a game to do that. I want to be brutally honest, and I want to be brutally fair at the same time, this is going to be hard to do to say the least. I do like the game, it is not what I was expecting, as we were lied to by the Devs in every podcast they were in, E3 Video we watched, and press release they handed down. This is the best I can say about that, they just plainly lied to us. The game does not support MPlayer right out of the box, you have to download and install a patch to let the game work in MPlayer. The MPlayer lobby sucks, no chat, no gamespy, you cant tell much when your in there, you just have to pick one and try to see if they havent already launched. Players allowed in MPlayer are only 4 with 2 ships each, which is very disappointing, they promised us multiple players with 4 ships each, we were lied to yet again. The missions are routine and boring, this is due to the extreme cuts that were made since the debut in E3. They have just about cut everything out that they said would be in there, there is not much game left. Chessmess did let the cat out of the bag way back in the day, he told us about the Vulcan and the Borg, well it is true. I called that one correctly. Battles seem to be way to fast, your average battle is over in about 6-8 minutes, not much time to get in there and get it on because by the time you actually get in there and are having fun it is over. The Borg are UBER, This game does make you once again afraid of the Borg, however they have some of the lamest silly little ships I have even seen for the Borg, I came up with some great Fleet Names "Applecore Fleet" being my favorite. If they do release some patches to fix all that is wrong with the games Multiplayer dissapointment, I doubt any Game League would allow Borg as a playable competeable race as they are just way to powerful. The game plays like a bad version of Bridge Commander, you cant do much as far as yaw and pitch, no barrell rolls for the Defiant, but it does have great in game cinematics, you can change your view to see from just about any angle which is nice. The bad thing is you have to be right on top of your opponent to get the combat on, there is hardly any range in this game, it is all up close and personal sluggin it out like an arcade shooter. OOPS did I say that? I dont have much to say about the game in a positive light, I would much rather play Tactical Assault or Encounters. Legacy is a PC Game gone bad. It is a piss poor 360 port, and no one will make me believe any different. This game was developed for the Xbox 360 point blank and simple, very little was taken into account for the PC Gamer, we got the shaft. And they wonder why PC Gaming is fading so fast from our culture, this is a classic example of why PC games are being replaced by the console, no one wants to make a good PC Game anymore. The game will be easy to mod, it is much like Armada, the map editor is built in, from the looks of the files there is allot of the Armada code still there just renamed because the Devs were to lazy to delete it, or take it out. There are several references to the 360 version, which makes a guy think this is the exact game the 360 users will get except it willl play better because it was designed for them, not to mention they will have the ability to play MPlayer right out of the box unlike the PC people. If this was Bethesda's toe in the water so to speak, maybe this was a good learning experience, they now know what not to do if they want to make a new Star Trek game. Direct2Drive, release dates, promotional advertising, and of course to neve let MAddoc work on anything for them again ever. I think this is going to be an expensive lesson for Bethesda on how to make Star Trek Games. Overall the game is very bad, it will never live up to its full potential, Maddoc dropped the ball, and Bethesda let them. Lets hope this was only a test. There are many people saying that the Modders will be able to save the game, but the Modders should not have to save the game. The game should of been great right out of the box. We shouldnt have Modders having to line up and fix what the Devs should have fixed in the first place. People are complaining about the complaining, rumor has it there is a patch coming quickly, and that Maddoc will work without pay to get it right, well that is very unrealistic, no one works for free. Maddoc has done enough to the game in my opinion. If you want to play a good Star Trek Game, buy a PSP / DS or a PS2 and dont waste time with Legacy, go with Tactical Assault, or Encounters, and then wait to see if they are going to fix this Legacy. There is going to have to be one huge patch to fix all that is wrong, we need better in game lobby, we need at least 8 MPlayer slots witht the ability to use 4 ships each not 2, and we need a mappable keyboard just to name a few to start with. I bought a $180 video card to play Legacy, after 3 days I removed it and returned it to the place I bought it, I didnt really have the $180 to spend this close to Christmas, if Legacy would have been a better game I would of tightened my belt and sucked up the cost. But before it can be modded the way it deserves there needs to be a patch or 2 to fix the game, it is not worth modding until it is fixed so I dont need the Video Card just yet, so I uninstalled the game and went back to TA and Encounters. Maybe later this month or in Jan we will get a patch that fixes the game, then I will worry about a video card to play it, and modding it to the Near Distant Future, but I am having fun with TA and Encounters reading the horror stories over on the Legacy Forums about Legacy and how everyone dislikes it. My recomendation for everyone for this game, skip it until they fix it, if they do. |

This was taken from the Bethesda Forums in the General Section. It is a post from Dragnus. QUOTE ROFLMAO, proof the game is honestly an xbox port. I found the Xbox control XML: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252" ?> - <ControllerConfig> <Button Start="8" /> <Button Back="7" /> <Button Left_thumb="9" /> <Button Right_thumb="10" /> <Button Left_trigger="5" /> <Button Right_trigger="6" /> <Button A="1" /> <Button B="2" /> <Button X="3" /> <Button Y="4" /> </ControllerConfig> Directly from the directory....its in the most obvious spot in the world i know...and its not anything new to be found...its just funny to look at everytime i go back to it. PS: Im now actively going through all the files and finding things people want fixed....as I "was" lazy before....but i just spent all night playing and have gotten that "feeling".../sigh. |
